More than 600 Portuguese wines will be tasted in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo
Brazil is strategic market for ViniPortugal
More than 600 wines and close to 80 producers will be featured over the next two weeks in Brazil. The first stop is Rio de Janeiro, at CasaShopping, from May 31 to June 2, followed by São Paulo, at the JK Iguatemi mall, from June 7 to 9. Tasting sessions, special wine tastings, courses and harmonization are some of the activities provided in the 6th edition of "Wines of Portugal in Rio" and the 3rd edition of "Wines of Portugal in São Paulo".

This year, the visitors will have the opportunity to taste the iconic Pêra Manca wine, with the winemaker Pedro Baptista, from Adega Cartuxa - Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, in a vertical wine tasting with four wines  led by the critic Jorge Lucki. In São Paulo, the visitors are also able to try the Barca Velha, presented by the winemaker Luís Sottomayor, in a vertical wine tasting conducted by the critic and journalist Manuel Carvalho.

The two events program also includes special events guided by Dirceu Vianna Júnior, the only Portuguese-speaking Master of Wine, who accompanied by oenologists and producers, will challenge the participants during the sessions to discover the best Portuguese region of red and white wines.

Also a special attention to the "Course of Introduction to the Wines of Portugal" which will be assumed by Luís Lopes in Rio de Janeiro and Rui Falcão in São Paulo, and the thematic wine tastings "Unforgettable Wines of Alentejo"  and " Great Douro Wines ". In the Tasting Room, the public will have the opportunity to try different wines and exchange impressions with producers from different Portuguese wine regions.

The promotion of the "Portuguese Wines in Rio and São Paulo" event responds to ViniPortugal's commitment, materialized in the Marketing and Promotion Sector Plan for 2019, to conquer the Brazilian market, one of the main export destinations, as well as to stimulate more events for consumers to make known the quality and diversity of Portuguese wines in strategic markets for the "Wines of Portugal" brand.

Brazil is a market in evidence for the "Wines of Portugal" brand. In 2018, Portuguese wines had a very positive performance in this market, with a 16.4% increase in value and a 10.7% increase in the average price in 2018 compared to 2017, constituting the best performance in the top-10 of the main destination markets for Portuguese wines.

Brazil, together with the United States of America, Canada and China, are interested on Portuguese wines for 2019. It is recalled that these markets account for 60% of the international promotion value, totaling 14 million euros, of which 6 , 5 million euros belong to ViniPortugal.
